78' 280Z - NPoCP?

What's Oppo's opinion of this?

My father had a silver 78' after college and had been looking for another one before his early passing this December. Now I have been on the lookout for a silver 280Z. This one looks a little rough and the stock rims (rims pictured aren't included) are a downer but it also seems pretty cheap. I know these have the less desirable big bumpers but I am looking for something like the one he had so they are OK in this case!

I don't know much about the values of these but I do know the 240Z's seem to be rising.

EDIT: Just realized this is faded light blue, not silver :(. But still, needs paint anyway. It could be repainted!

I don't think its a terrible price. The interior looks really good, so if everything else is fine, it might just need a paint job to become an $8,000 car.

Pretty decent. If I'm not reading too much into what your intentions are, you definitely don't want to be in a hurry with this purchase. If you feel at all like this might not be the one, then skip it. Good things come to those who wait.

Yes I saw that red one! Those wheels are so ugly and that shift knob makes me worry. It is actually closer to me (I'm in Akron) but a little out of my price range for what I'd be buying it for, which is a second car.

Yes indeed I'm in no hurry to make a purchase right now as I don't have the garage space at the moment. At the same time while $4k is a lot of money, it isn't a lot of money at the same time. Especially for something that should, with care, maintain its value if not grow.

honestly, you'll have more fun in one you don't think is 'too precious' and 8-9K buys a whole different league of car.

Craigslist pricing is either dirt cheap (rarely) or ambitious by 25% because they

a. think it's better than it is

b. thing EVERYONE wants it (they dont)

c. expect major lowballing.

this guy even says it all in caps, no lowballers, but the truth is you might even get him to take 2900$ if you stand there and talk about reasonably it long enough.

i'd at least start low, you can always offer more and there other cars which you can say are similar in perceived value to you ...example...wrong year, but same price...this car would be the better buy if you werent hooked on the older body style.

I'd say NP. No rust-check, nice interior-check, stock motor-check. Always room for negotiations, get $500 off and would be a very good deal. I would check under the fenders and front frame rails for accident damage. The 280 was a very nice car, a little heavier than than the 240, a better GT car. Stiffen it up a bit and they handle very well.

I'd say it's a NP. I could be wrong, but I think this car has been for sale for a looooong time. Back in July when I was looking for a Z, I'm pretty sure this one popped up. Could be something up with it, but I could be wrong.

If you can check it out and drive it, go for it.

Keeping an eye on it. Another commenter said this car has been on CL for quite awhile. I'm hoping I'll have time to go look at it (I'm about an hour away) in the next month, if it is still for sale.
